What Happened to G Hannelius?
The Short Answer
Genevieve "G" Hannelius, now 27, is a former Disney Channel star living a quieter life. Best known as Avery Jennings on Dog With a Blog (2012-2015), she graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 2021 and moved to New York City in 2022.
Born Genevieve Knight Hannelius on December 22, 1998, in Boston, Massachusetts, she was a Disney Channel fixture of the early 2010s, appearing in Sonny with a Chance, Good Luck Charlie, and Den Brother before landing her signature role.
Unlike many child stars, Hannelius chose education over continued fame, and her adult life has been deliberately low-profile.
Who She Was: Disney Channel Star
Hannelius began acting as a child, with early roles in Surviving Suburbia and as a recurring guest on Sonny with a Chance and Good Luck Charlie. Her big break was the Disney Channel movie Den Brother (2010).
From 2012 to 2015, she starred as Avery Jennings, the studious older sister, on Dog With a Blog, a sitcom about a talking dog who blogs. The show ran three seasons and made her a recognizable face to a generation of Disney viewers.
She also voiced characters in animated projects and released music, positioning herself as a multi-hyphenate teen star.
Choosing College Over Hollywood
As her Disney years wound down, Hannelius made an unusual choice: she prioritized education. She enrolled at Sarah Lawrence College, the prestigious liberal arts school in New York, focusing on her studies.
She graduated in 2021, a milestone she celebrated as the start of her adult chapter. Friends noted her intellectual curiosity and her desire for a life beyond auditions.
The decision reflected a maturity rare among former child stars: she wanted to be known for more than her Disney roles.
Move to New York City
In 2022, Hannelius moved to New York City, embracing East Coast life after her California childhood and college years. The move signaled a clean break from her Hollywood past.
In New York, she has kept an exceptionally low profile, with little public information about her career or personal life. She appears to have stepped back from acting professionally.
Her social media is minimal, and she has not pursued the influencer or comeback paths many former Disney stars take.
Early Life
Genevieve Knight Hannelius was born December 22, 1998, in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in Southern Maine before the family moved to Los Angeles for her acting career when she was young.
She began performing as a child, landing commercials and small roles before Disney discovered her. Her parents supported her career while emphasizing normalcy.
The "G" nickname, from Genevieve, became her professional identity, distinctive and memorable.
Why She Stepped Back
Hannelius has never given a dramatic exit interview, but her trajectory speaks clearly: she chose a private, educated life over the grind of post-Disney Hollywood, where many child actors struggle to transition.
Her Sarah Lawrence degree and New York move suggest interests beyond entertainment, possibly in writing, academia, or other creative fields.
In an industry that chews up child stars, her quiet pivot looks like wisdom.
What She's Doing Now
At 27, G Hannelius lives in New York City, out of the spotlight, her Disney years a fond memory for fans who grew up with Avery Jennings. She has not announced new acting projects.
Her story is a refreshing counter-narrative: the child star who got an education, moved across the country, and chose herself over fame.
Dog With a Blog fans still remember her fondly, but G Hannelius is writing her own next chapter, privately.
Sonny With a Chance Days
Before Dog With a Blog, Hannelius recurred on Sonny with a Chance as Dakota Condor, showcasing her comedic timing alongside Demi Lovato.
She also appeared on Good Luck Charlie, embedding herself in Disney Channel's golden era.
These guest roles built her reputation as a reliable young comedienne, leading to her Den Brother movie and Dog With a Blog lead.
Her Disney resume is a time capsule of early 2010s children's TV.
Music Career
Hannelius also pursued music, releasing singles that showcased a pop sensibility beyond her acting.
Her songs, aimed at her Disney audience, were catchy and age-appropriate, part of the multi-hyphenate teen star playbook.
Music took a backseat to education, but it remains part of her creative identity.
Whether she returns to it in New York is unknown, but the talent persists.
Why Child Stars Struggle
Hannelius's quiet pivot highlights why so many child stars struggle: the transition to adult roles is brutal, typecasting is rampant, and the industry discards as quickly as it embraces.
Her choice, education and privacy over desperate relevance, looks increasingly wise as peers flame out publicly.
She avoided the pitfalls by simply leaving, a radical act in a fame-obsessed culture.
Her story offers a model: it's okay to walk away, to choose a life over a career.
Life After Disney
Leaving Disney is notoriously hard, but Hannelius's education-first exit was strategic: Sarah Lawrence gave her credentials and confidence beyond acting.
Her college years were deliberately normal: classes, friends, and anonymity, a stark contrast to her Disney fame.
She has described the relief of being a student, not a star, valued for her mind rather than her image.
The transition wasn't always easy; former child stars often struggle with identity, but her academic focus provided ballast.
Her 2021 graduation was a triumph, proof that she could succeed on non-Hollywood terms.
At 27, her post-Disney life is a case study in healthy transitions.
Privacy as Power
In an era of oversharing, Hannelius's privacy is radical: minimal social media, no tell-alls, no comeback tours.
Her 2022 New York move was a declaration of independence from her past, a new city for a new chapter.
She controls her narrative by refusing to offer one, a power move in a culture that demands constant content.
Fans respect her boundaries, their nostalgia for Avery Jennings not translating to entitlement over her life.
Her privacy protects her ability to define herself, student, New Yorker, woman, not just former star.
G Hannelius's greatest role may be herself, played entirely off-camera.
Dog With a Blog: The Lead Role
G Hannelius's signature role was Avery Jennings on Disney Channel's Dog With a Blog (2012-2015), the type-A teen whose family adopts a talking dog. The show ran three seasons and made her a Disney star.
Her Avery was the show's anchor: organized, ambitious, and funny, a character Hannelius played with charm and precision.
The role brought her fame, fan mail, and the pressures of child stardom, experiences she navigated with unusual maturity.
Her co-stars remember her as professional and kind, the rare child actor without diva tendencies.
Dog With a Blog remains beloved by its generation, streaming to nostalgic audiences.
For Hannelius, it was both peak and pivot: the role that made her, and the life she chose to leave.
Nail Art Business
As a teen star, Hannelius launched a nail art business, creating custom designs and building a brand around her creativity. The venture showcased an entrepreneurial streak unusual for her age.
Her nail art tutorials and products found an audience among her young fans, blending beauty content with her Disney fame.
The business was a learning experience: marketing, production, and customer service, skills she carried to college and beyond.
Though she moved on from the venture, it demonstrated the drive that later took her to Sarah Lawrence.
At 27, her entrepreneurial past is a footnote, but a telling one: she has always made her own way.
The nail artist became a scholar, each chapter chosen deliberately.
Sarah Lawrence and Academic Life
G Hannelius's decision to attend Sarah Lawrence College was radical for a Disney star: she chose one of America's most rigorous liberal arts schools, known for its writing program and intellectual intensity.
Her years there were transformative: she studied literature, wrote extensively, and experienced the anonymity of campus life. Professors knew her as a student, not a star.
She graduated in 2021, her degree a testament to discipline and curiosity. The education, she has said, changed how she thinks.
Her academic work, particularly in creative writing, suggests literary ambitions beyond acting.
The Sarah Lawrence years were her rebellion: not against Disney, but for herself.
At 27, in New York, she carries her education like armor, the former child star who outgrew the script.
